As I experience the challenge and pleasure of creating, I often feel as though I am exploring another world. Whether it is the way light plays on the mountains or the beauty of the human form, I endeavor to express the essence of what I see and feel.
I have eclectic tastes and have practiced many art forms, including a period of sculpture that seems to find its way into my two-dimensional work. Some have said it has a three-dimensional effect - inviting the viewer to touch or at least want to do so. To that end, I create by painting with cut or torn pieces of hand made papers and carefully chosen fragments of my own previous work.
My collage work is nearly always representational. I choose from hundreds of papers; primarily hand-dyed, batiked, marbled, or hand-painted. Some of them help me view the subject in new or surprising ways, while others support the interpretation I already have in mind.
Frequently my work is based on sketches or photographs Ive taken on travels with my husband, Jay. Since there is inspiration all around me, I have taken to carrying a digital camera with me wherever I go, near or far.
My art journey provides me with the inner images and discipline to create and share what I see, feel and imagine through pencil, paint, pastel, and collage.
