Archived 09/07/07 - How Ginny's Haiku Landscapes take shape

First I choose a scene from landscape photos taken from our travels.

Next, I lay down the broad color areas with watercolor washes - usually done rather loosely. Then I use "Black Ink" or "Mulberry" papers to suggest the forms in the landscape. These are torn (or cut) and applied with matte medium.

Occasionally some pieces that are very opaque (ie. made of thin layers of real bark) need to be attached with a special adhesive.

Finally, I add detail work with acrylics (since the surface will no longer accept watercolors).
